Head of Machine Learning Engineering

Overview

Exactly.ai is an early-stage startup that has recently completed its Seed round of investment. We are building a marketplace for professional visual creators to train and publish their personal GenAI models. Brands can rent these models to generate images for their marketing and product needs. Since its launch in November 2022, Exactly has organically gained 50K registered users, including award-winning and internationally recognised artists. We prioritise ethically sourced AI, which means that all uploaded images, created models, and generated images belong to the artists, not us. Exactly is a part of NVIDIA Inception Accelerator and has been recognised as one of the top 15 European and Israeli startups in 2023 by Google for Startups. We have also graduated from the Google AI First Accelerator. Our AI Research team has developed a technology that excels in understanding an artist's style and creating high-quality images in that style.

We are looking for a leader for our ML engineering team who will develop, build and deploy ML models and user features in collaboration with our Research and Development teams. You will create and execute the ML development roadmap, ensuring our technology remains cutting-edge and impactful.

Compensation and work arrangement

• The salary for this role is determined based on the market benchmark and the candidate's years of experience.
• Stock options are also provided in addition to salary.
• The work arrangement for this role is hybrid, with 3 days in the office.
• The company's headquarters and office are located in London, but candidates from different locations are considered. If you are not based in London, you will be able to work remotely.
• The role offers 25 days of holiday in addition to bank holidays.

What you’ll do:

• Lead, manage, mentor and guide the machine learning engineering team, fostering a collaborative and innovative environment.
• Work with the leadership team to align technology goals with organisational objectives.
• Ensure alignment between the machine learning roadmap and product goals by working closely with the product team.
• Stay informed of the latest advancements in Generative AI, collaborate with the Research team, and explore innovative techniques to improve model quality and efficiency, as well as facilitate the progression and evaluation of ML research efforts.
• Collaborate with the development team to make key decisions on infrastructure, architecture and scalability.
• Develop systems that continuously benchmark advancements, prevent regressions and efficiently manage the challenges of performance, scalability and big data.
• Influence key decisions on the architecture and implementation of scalable, reliable and cost-effective engineering solutions.
• Communicate complex scientific concepts to other teams in a clear and understandable language.
• Maintain and scale existing technologies.

Required Skills and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, data science, mathematics, or a related field.
• 3+ years of experience as a machine learning engineer.
• Experience in leading, managing, mentoring and guiding ML engineering teams.
• Knowledge of machine learning system design and maintenance at the production level.
• Experience with high-load systems and ensuring their scalability and reliability.
• Experience with processing huge datasets.
• Extensive knowledge of various aspects of machine learning; experience specifically in Computer Vision, NLP, recommender systems, Data Science, would be a plus.
• Strong time management, problem solving and organisational skills.
